The International
Workshop “Searching for Eve: basal metazoans and the evolution of multicellular complexity ”
will bring together researchers from around the world using basal metazoans to gain insight into cellular and genomic events underpinning the origin and evolution of animal diversity and complexity. The goal of the workshop is to learn about cutting-edge research from international experts in the field and to provide a forum for future networks and collaborations. Workshop topics
include:
basal metazoan genome projects phylogenomics metagenomics bioinformatics and gene networks development and regeneration stem cell biology early evolutionary traits of innate immunity new technologies and computational tools for the study of the
basal metazoans

Poster Prize
We are grateful that both BioEssays (Wiley) and Zoology (Elsevier) will sponsor poster prizes to be awarded at the workshop. Candidates will be judged on originality and quality of the work, and quality of presentation.

Meeting Organizers:
T. Bosch (University of Kiel) and T. Holstein (University of Heidelberg)
Evening lecture:
Nori Satoh (Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology, Japan) will deliver a lecture On the origin and evolution of chordates; lessons from their genomes and Ting Xie (Stowers Institute for Medical Research, Kansas, USA) will present his view on "Stem Cells: From Basic Biology to Potential Application".
